Sinus

Sinus cancer is a rare condition. This happens when tumors in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses form, which is the area behind the nose where air passes to the throat. Risk for the disease increases with age and more often affects men than women. Smoking and heavy metal use, such as nickel, often increase the risk of developing tumors in the sinus. Sinus cancer symptoms may include under-skin mass in the face, side numbness of the nose, one-sided nosebleeds, nasal congestion, and a recurrent lump or sore in the nose. Treatment typically involves surgery for both early and advanced stage cancers, and may include treatment with chemotherapy and/or radiation. Reconstructive surgery may be a choice for patients undergoing procedures which remove a significant amount of tissue.
